Circle freestanding curved panel shows the world from the mountain to the sea, swirling clouds, swirling seas, swirling birds. A dazzling sun, indigo waters and skyline, a lavender moon rising. Gold highlights echo the sun’s glance. Ripples of darkest blue fine bubbles shimmy across the glass.
I spend a fair amount of time walking the coast paths of Ceredigion and north Pembrokeshire where my back can be to the hills as I gaze out across the seas, be they calm or stormy. Ravens, choughs, jackdaws and crows usually make an appearance – here they are handpainted onto the glass to give a glorious matt contrast to the glossiness of the main scape.
Layers of coloured and clear glass, paint, glass powders and metallic inclusions are fired together in the kiln several times to create this piece. This is a one-of-a-kind glass creation, not a repeatable or ongoing series of the same. There is only one of these glass panels and I will never make another exactly the same.
It looks amazing with the sun shining though, or against a white wall. I’ve included a photograph of the panel with a light behind it too – another option! The base glass here is a thin white which gives a beautiful glow when backlit.
